A la découverte du Canada

Sur les traces de Jacques Cartier

The device À la découverte du Canada, sur les traces de Jacques Cartier aims to participate in this strategic direction through an original digital proposal based using and enhancing the resources of the BnF.

This project involves creating a oneiric, narrative museum experience in the world of 16th-century nautical maps, following in the footsteps of Jacques Cartier as he discovered Canada. It examines the cartographic representation of the world and the way in which archival documents such as portulans can be used to convey an imaginary world and a narrative.

As part of this project, elements chosen from the BnF's resources (cartographic collections, travel and ethnographic narratives) were integrated. Additional resources were also provided by the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec. This system was designed for use in situ at the Bibliothèque nationale de France as part of the partnership between the CréaTIC programme and the BnF.
